A firewall blocks unauthorized access to your computer from the internet. Firewalls protect your computer from hackers and viruses by checking each piece of information that arrives on your computer. However, a firewall is not enough security on its own. Many viruses can trick firewalls and pass through undetected; as such firewalls should be used with other security software.
